Cold and Rainy? Get your Abuelita On

First rain of the season here in otherwise sunny SoCal. Blustery and wet and deliciously fall-like.

Perfect day for your Abuelita.

Abuelita hot cocoa

Hola, Abuelita!

Go ahead and use all your milk. Four cups total. Heat it up gently in a small pot. Put your disc of chocolate in a blender, add two cups hot milk. Cover, Whirl. Add the remaining two cups. Whirl some more.

Serve.

Add whipped cream if you have it

Everyone will be warm and happy. Especially the kids, who will grow up remembering that you made them hot chocolate when it was cold and wet. Especially if they’ve grown up in a place where it was rarely cold or wet.

Dirty dishes

Clean up.

What are your rainy day traditions?

I grew up in South Dakota. Hot chocolate was a necessity after a long cold morning shoveling snow.
