Among the many joys of attending the BlogHer Food Conference ’09 was the generous bag of swag I was given, full of products and samples for me to enjoy. Most of which I wasn’t that interested in. After quickly consuming the Scharffenberger chocolates, I put the rest away.
And that’s where the Drama Tween found the Ooba; in the side shelf of the ‘fridge. I must confess I hadn’t paid much attention to it. I’d never heard of this brand before and frankly, the pear-shaped bottle filled with a dark liquid reminded me a little too much of a bottle of soy sauce. I planned to let it sit there until the fridge-cleaning fairy arrived once again to clean out my fridge in six-months’ time.
The Drama Tween, though, she’s an early adapter. She swiped it up, opened it, and fearlessly took a swig.
I watched, trying to remember if I had any syrup of Ipecac left over from her baby days, and if so, where it might be.
But she smacked her lips. “Mine,” she announced.
After a brief tussle, I managed to wrest it out of her hands and try a slug myself.
Delicious! Refreshing, sparkly, not too sweet. And you know how I feel about hibiscus. It was the only flavor of agua fresca that would replenish me after all those flamenco classes years ago.
Mother and daughter proceeded to fight over the one Ooba I’d been gifted with. She won (not before I took another long draught, though), and harmony reigned over the afternoon kitchen once again.
I don’t normally buy sweetened drinks for the household, but these I would buy. Try one for yourself. It’s got the Bad Home Cook Seal of Approval.

..psst…so who is the fridge-cleaning fairy?
Absolutely love Ooba. Especially the Vanilla and Lime. Doesn’t hurt that it’s a super healthy alternative to soda and most other juices. Great find.
Me too I love Ooba as well, very healthy indeed..
