A Cup of Tea on Christmas

Tea with honey on Christmas morning

Keep sleeping, you think.

There are no eggs to scramble. No sandwich to make. No yoga class to get to. No irate clients to placate.  Your regular schedule is 5,000 miles away and in another time zone.

So stay in bed, you tell yourself.  There’s jetlag to consider, after all.

Oh. And it’s possibly Christmas.

But after a while your body says enough. Get up. So you creep downstairs and click on the electric water boiler (note to self: Get one of these) and make yourself the first cup of tea of the day. There will be many, many more. Along with family and a Christmas dinner. Maybe some singing. This side of the family is known to break into two-part harmony.

Right now it’s quiet. The clock on the wall says 6 a.m. So you can sit and drink your tea with honey and enjoy the calm clarity in your head. No one else will be awake for two hours.

Merry Christmas to everyone!
