Get Your Grill On

in Good Ideas Gone Bad

And so it’s come to this.

I have purchased a grill. My first ever.

I’m not entirely sure what possessed me. It wasn’t an impulse buy, really. I’ve been thinking about it and researching for weeks. But why a grill? I don’t eat very much meat. And why now? I can’t really say.  I have many other questions besides:

Webster Silver One-Touch Grill

First question: What does "One Touch" mean, anyway?

Yeah, it’s a modest little grill. But you have no idea what kind of radical idea this is for me. Feeble as I am behind a stove, the notion of paying cash money for another cooking implement for the great outdoors, one that has inspired its own sub-culture, traditions and legends, not to mention dark secrets the menfolk are loathe to indulge…well, I’m just a tiny big aghast at my hubris.

Be it ever so humble, there's no grill like mine.

Remind me to tell you a funny story about the last grilling apparatus I had in my backyard. And an even funnier one about how it went away.

This is the first grill I’ve bought for myself. No boys involved.

I assembled this thing myself as well. All by myself. It was touch and go for awhile. But I conquered. Because I am woman.

Weber grill assembly

And because I know how to download assembly manuals from the internets...

Yeah, I’m feeling kinda butch right about now. Like I wanna grill me some steaks.

But I’m sure I’ll calm down. I’ll probably start with some salmon and veggies.  I will definitely be spending some time on the GrillGirl blog.

And let’s not forget my track record. Just because I was able to purchase and assemble a grill by myself doesn’t mean I’ll be able to utilize it without burning my entire neighborhood down. I might need some pointers.

In the meantime, however, I’m feeling optimistic. It’s going to be a good summer. Yoga teacher training, and my own grill. Wow.

Standing Grill Pose...

Stay tuned for summer party at my house…

Okay, here’s a concept for you: grilled summer fruits atop ice cream with drizzled caramel (or, if you’re feeling really ambitious, some sort of brittle). Mango, pineapple, etc. grill up nicely, and the smoky/seared flavor of the grill is GREAT.

Do you have a lemon tree? Goat cheese wrapped in lemon leaves and grilled just for a few minutes.

Grill apples with brie and almonds, really great. Or… peaches with a soft cheese like brie or chevre and top with chopped walnuts. Have fun lady.

Webber… the muscle car of barbecues. Nothing beats em for just about anything grilled. Ribs… yes… ribs at the Bad Home Cook’s place… I’ll bring the beer….

Actually you’d better bring the ribs and I’ll bring the beer. I know a lot more about beer than I do about ribs…

I just went back to this post and totally agree – nopales are great grilled . I like them with grilled onions and portabello mushrooms in a garlicky vinagrette as a warm salad!
